Black Out

Black walls have been popular in decorating for a few years now so I am not being too cutting edge here but despite the paint's popularity with designers it's a trend that hasn't really made its way into our living rooms and bedrooms. I guess it's the equivalent to fashion's dip into the crop top pool in 2008 - fine on runway, not on real bodies. The truth is, this is a look that we shouldn't be intimidated by. Paired with lots of white, gold, and pops of bright colors, black rooms are incredibly glamourous! Maybe you don't want to do a nursery in it (although J. Crew’s creative director Jenna Lyons did) but try it in a bathroom, or start with one wall in your bedroom. If you're still feeling unsure just check out these insanely fabulous rooms below for some inspiration...

The high gloss black in this kitchen (even on the ceiling) is balanced by the crisp white floor and trim.

Nothing sexier than gold on black.

I love everything about this shot, it's feminine but edgy.

A big white bed looks perfectly in place against a high gloss black wall.

Even traditional style furniture works in a black room.

Again we see a pop of color (yellow looks great!)
