The sun is out and I'm finally starting to feel like summer is peeking around the corner. Memorial Day weekend has always symbolized the gateway to my most favorite time of year and I can't wait for warm days, dinners al fresco, beach parties and summer vacations. I'm in the mood for a party and here's my recipe for a stylish Memorial Day celebration (sorry...no hot dogs here).
The Venue:
The great outdoors! It's easy to create a luxe lounging space in your backyard or at the beach with a seagrass rug (Ikea has great options), big throw pillows and small Moroccan-inspired cocktail tables. Peonies are in full bloom right now (I just bought 2 dozen at TJ's for $30) and make for luscious arrangements. Hanging lanterns define your space and create the most beautiful lighting at sunset.

The Music:
A heavy dose of the The Black Keys with a dash of Grizzly Bear, Kings of Leon and my all-time fave the Editors mixed in.

Food & Libations:
I'm on a total Mediterranean kick right now so I'm thinking of serving my favorite warm salad (couscous, grilled shrimp, feta and lemon vinaigrette) with flatbread and a fresh tomato and herb salad. Ginger-mint vodka lemonade needs to make an appearance along with some kind of decadent dessert - maybe the coconut cake from my local bakery, Elizabethan Desserts. Yum!

The Uniform:
A tan (faux of course), this dress I just picked up on net-a-porter.com, a stack of gold bangles and my bare feet are all I need.
