Tiny Jewel

Loving the simple styling of this tiny (900 sq ft) apartment. The former NYC home of model Miranda Kerr, this wonderful little jewel is currently on the market and can be yours for around 1.4 million.

My NYC Spots

An old friend of mine was planning a trip to NYC and wanted to know my favorite downtown spots. Why not share them with everyone! Since I think it best to eat your way through the city these are mostly restaurants, but I threw in a museum for good measure. Here are my picks, do you have any you'd like to share?

Lower East Side:

Shillers - GREAT bistro food
Supper - excellent Italian food (Drew Barrymore's favorite haunt)
Apizz - another fantastic Italian spot
Freemans - very Lower East Side vibe, lots of taxidermy, very cozy and killer drinks

NoLita (North of Little Italy):

New Museum Of Contemporary Art
La Esquina - very trendy restaurant (taco stand, cafe and underground restaurant - the later is hard to get into but the cafe upstairs is easy and the food is the same, the taco stand is a walk up type place if you're looking for something cheap and fast)

Soho:

Tons of shopping on Broadway, gets a little crowded but worth it if you can handle the crowd.

Saturdays Surf Shop - I haven't yet been but Laura says it's a must. Hey if Anna Wintour shops there, why not!
Delicatessen - trendy spot, decent food, always good for a John Mayer sighting.

West Village:

If you like Marc Jacobs you can hit five of his stores in a two block radius. This neighborhood is super quaint and worth a visit even if you don't like Marc Jacobs.

Spotted Pig - best burger you'll ever have
L'Artusi - super yummy
August - perfect brunch spot
Employees Only - bar, gets a little crowded but great drinks
Commerce - gorgeous street, quintessential West Village, great restaurant

Once you've hit the West Village head North and check out the Meatpacking District, there the shopping and eating continues, you can't go wrong there for nightlife.

Enjoy!

ALLSAINTS

Just returned from a wine/food/shopping fueled romp in NYC. We stayed in Soho and one of my favorite neighborhood finds was the US flagship of British brand ALLSAINTS. I had seen some of their pieces before but never knew how amazing the entire collection is. You have to see it to believe it and this store was like Candy Land for a girl obsessed with sharp tailoring, louche knits and leather, leather, leather. Oh and the military boots are to die for...

So Witty

Woke up the other day and went outside with the bambino and the dog, headed to get coffee. The scenery on the way to my local coffee shop is pretty much the same every morning, but on this particular day I was greeted with something new... something very, very witty.

Marc Jacobs, who pretty much owns every corner of the West Village, had taken over yet another storefront. Although I wish he wasn't on EVERY corner I was happy to see that this new outpost was A) a bookstore and B) very smartly named. Take a look for yourself...

Too good!

9 By Design

Because raising just one child in this crazy city called Manhattan is a little overwhelming, it's with great awe and admiration that I watch the hectic, high-style, life of the Novogratz family. Bravo TV's latest voyeur fascination, 9 By Design, is a show about a family of 9 (2 outnumbered adults and 7 adorable kids) who live in NYC, renovate and flip, commercial and residential spaces... some of which they live in. What captures my attention most about the show isn't the fact that they are raising a gaggle of kids (that concept seems all too familiar in reality TV) it's their devil-may-care attitude to design that makes me tune in. True, they have the luxury of big budgets and amazing spaces but there is a lesson for all of us in the way they approach design... use what you love. Buy something that you may not have a place for, you'll find one and your home will be a reflection of you because of it.

Bar None - The Most Beautiful Mahattan Bars

After a late dinner with friends on Friday night the group was headed to NYC's Boom Boom Room - a club notoriously difficult to get into. At five months pregnant the Boom Boom Room was probably not the best place for me to go so I sadly declined but a friend of mine said since I was into interior design I should check out some pictures online (a sad substitute yes but inspiring none the less). Fashioned after the likes of Studio 54, this fantastically hip 70's styled lounge does not disappoint from a design perspective. It got me thinking, Manhattan is full of insanely gorgeous bars. When the lights are low and it's packed to the gills with fashionistas and hipsters it can be hard to see the beauty around you so today I bring you a rare, sober, lights-on, snapshot of some of NYC's most stylish bars...

Window Shopping

Christmastime in NYC is arguably the most magical time of year. This city takes the holiday season very seriously and no where else is that more apparent than the truly inspired window displays at both large and small retail shops. Since NY may not be in your travel plans this year I'd like to bring the displays to you, so grab yourself a latte and take a stroll with me....

By far the most magical of all windows belongs to Bergdorf Goodman. This year's theme was Curiouser and Curiouser, based on
Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll. Simply amazing.

The Bergdorf Goodman Men's Store display was based on the movie, The Fantastic Mr. Fox.
