Who is your style icon?
I have a lot, but one is model, Daria Werbowy, I always pull off pictures of her from the web, and tear out of magazine pics, her style inspires me.






What's playing on your iPod?
There is a great song by Vanessa da Mata that I’m listening to right now. She collaborated on a song called Boa Sorte/Good Luck with Ben Harper.





What is the one item in your closet you cannot live without?
My bikinis of course! When I’m home, or in Bali, I live in them, so if I didn’t have one on hand at all times I would definitely feel incomplete.

Where is your favorite place in the world?
My favorite place in the whole world would have to be my home… MAUI! No place compares.






What are you obsessing about owning right now?
I recently saw a vintage Louis Vitton trunk that I’ve been thinking about ever since. Right now my mind is on traveling, I’m leaving for a week to go to Bali for 5 weeks and that trunk would sure come in handy!

Paia Fish Market in Maui... best ono burger in the whole world!






What is your necessary extravagance?
Traveling is a must…. experiencing new cultures and fashion. Traveling inspires me and makes me who I am.





How do you define perfect happiness?
Being home with family and friends. Sharing special places and special moments with the people in my life I most care about.

Guest Stylist - Dawn Triemstra

Dawn Triemstra is a girls girl and hangs in an office full of cute surfer boys. As the Production Manager for Surfing Magazine and Skateboarder Magazine, she is also in charge of one of the best annual projects in addition to writing for various publications.

First step - head to Miami Swim show and take notes on all the fabulous suits about to be released for the next season, 2nd - super producer of the Surfing Swimsuit Issue released every year in March. Her travels and adventures have taken her around the globe. I met her on a golden sunset years ago in Mexico and her sunshine has always shined through!

Bikini Envy

As the producer of the SURFING Magazine Swimsuit Issue, I get to see more swimsuits than most women look at in an entire season… some would say they are jealous, though I wouldn’t be. Seeing all those cute one and two-pieces just gives me crazy bikini envy! Why can’t I have one of every style in my closet?! But truly, it is a perk to see what styles designers like L*Space, Insight, Vix, Billabong, Tigerlily, Tibi, Lenny and others have imagined for us to wear laying on the beach or poolside. Taking those pieces that are truly special and putting them in a setting that causes your heart to race a bit faster and inspiration to spring to mind is what my goal is and it’s far from an easy task.

Here is little peek at what we see, a behind the scenes as it were, that is then transformed, by the help of a super talented photographer (Lauren Ward), a creative stylist (Conor Graham), a hair and make-up genius (Jeannie Jeffries) and a team of dedicated and passionate magazine types (SURFING!).

We lug more suits than will ever be shot to our locations--plane flights, boat rides and car drives away.

We take the simple, though undeniably gorgeous, setting of a perfect beach…Voila!



And turn it into what you see, the image that will captivate and make you think, “I need that maillot for my summer trip to Martha’s Vineyard!” {Photo by Lauren Ward}

Oh My Mikoh

You've got to love a designer that comes blazing out of the gates. Which is why my ears definitely perked up when our friend Mai so enthusiastically gushed about our friends Oleema and Kalani's new swimwear line - Mikoh. Once Oleema gave me the sneak peak at the look book months ago, I was definitely hooked on these luscious and luxurious bathing suits. I love a sexy one piece and I think these fit the bill just perfectly.

Love the design details...see that crochet back, maximal strings hanging from a side bottom tie, the bandage top sucking it all in...in a shimmery bronze...and the multi-ties skittering down the side for the perfect mix of peek-a-boo skin and utter charm. Looks like the press loves the details too!


Girls- if this is your debut collection...the future if very bright. Congratulations and we can't wait for our first Mikoh suits.
