My NYC Spots

An old friend of mine was planning a trip to NYC and wanted to know my favorite downtown spots. Why not share them with everyone! Since I think it best to eat your way through the city these are mostly restaurants, but I threw in a museum for good measure. Here are my picks, do you have any you'd like to share?

Lower East Side:

Shillers - GREAT bistro food
Supper - excellent Italian food (Drew Barrymore's favorite haunt)
Apizz - another fantastic Italian spot
Freemans - very Lower East Side vibe, lots of taxidermy, very cozy and killer drinks

NoLita (North of Little Italy):

New Museum Of Contemporary Art
La Esquina - very trendy restaurant (taco stand, cafe and underground restaurant - the later is hard to get into but the cafe upstairs is easy and the food is the same, the taco stand is a walk up type place if you're looking for something cheap and fast)

Soho:

Tons of shopping on Broadway, gets a little crowded but worth it if you can handle the crowd.

Saturdays Surf Shop - I haven't yet been but Laura says it's a must. Hey if Anna Wintour shops there, why not!
Delicatessen - trendy spot, decent food, always good for a John Mayer sighting.

West Village:

If you like Marc Jacobs you can hit five of his stores in a two block radius. This neighborhood is super quaint and worth a visit even if you don't like Marc Jacobs.

Spotted Pig - best burger you'll ever have
L'Artusi - super yummy
August - perfect brunch spot
Employees Only - bar, gets a little crowded but great drinks
Commerce - gorgeous street, quintessential West Village, great restaurant

Once you've hit the West Village head North and check out the Meatpacking District, there the shopping and eating continues, you can't go wrong there for nightlife.

Enjoy!

So Witty

Woke up the other day and went outside with the bambino and the dog, headed to get coffee. The scenery on the way to my local coffee shop is pretty much the same every morning, but on this particular day I was greeted with something new... something very, very witty.

Marc Jacobs, who pretty much owns every corner of the West Village, had taken over yet another storefront. Although I wish he wasn't on EVERY corner I was happy to see that this new outpost was A) a bookstore and B) very smartly named. Take a look for yourself...

Too good!

The Hit List

I landed in San Francisco over a week or so ago and high tailed it to Barneys to stock up on some "essentials". Here is what's on my hit list...

LOVE these ballet flats by Lanvin . I've been living in them night and day. If I could score a pair with a silver chain duo as well...I'd been a happy girl. Worth the investment, they are chic and feel like the best traveling shoes ever. Note- they are not security line friendly as you have to de-jewel your ankles every time which takes longer than usual, but well worth the inconvenience!

SEARCHING for my next carry all but so many decisions and want to make the right choice. Barneys definitely has the best selection but I missed my chance. Next time! See you around Arena Tricolor.

SCORED the matte black velvet and do'r illusion from the Chanel Shanghai collection. The tip here is not to do a typical black nail or a glittery gold nail, but to layer and get creative. Black tips on gold as shown here in the photo or the matte black with the do'r overlay for some dimension. Note-these are available at Chanel stores only... skip right on past Barney's to Maiden Lane.

NEED desperately some emergency treatment. My skin is paying the price from airplanes and late nights jumping from event to event. Next time around, I will pick up this jar of repair cream by Revive.

Thank you Barneys - TSC loves you!

A Whole New World - Department Store Takashimaya

This Japanese import sits proudly on Manhattan's 5th Avenue and although it has a very New York address its interior is anything but. Forget the hustle and bustle of busy NY and enter a serene and impeccable land of finery. Takashimaya's 7 story wonderland holds an on-site florist specializing in the exotic, a spa, a traditional tea salon, a home décor department that carries original works of arts, and men's, women's and children's departments that boast unique designers and gifts.

During your next trip to NY don't float by the unassuming entrance on your way to nearby Tiffany's. Make a special stop at Takashimaya for tea and a truly unique shopping experience.

Moshi, Moshi!
