Guest Stylist - Stacey Angeles

A cross between Ann Curry, Chelsea Lately and Edie Sedgwick (her style icon by the way), Stacey is my Brooklyn-based cousin (by marriage but I am claiming her as family because she's super cool). She's one of the funniest gals I know and her adorable pixie good looks make me want to put her in my pocket and make her my little pet - she's too cute! I could go on but I think her self description says it best...

Stacey Angeles is director, producer and writer for the idiot box (recently working with Rachel Zoe on the Rachel Zoe Project). Anytime you see a fight break out on a reality show, she’s the one behind the camera encouraging it.

Who is your style icon?

Edie Sedgwick! I’ve always loved the look of black tights with short dresses. Now that I’ve regrettably chopped off my hair, I find myself re-appreciating her and pulling up pictures of her style because while she had a tomboyish quality, she managed to be extremely feminine.

What's playing on your iPod?
Oh the guilty pleasures I cannot dare say aloud. Who wants to admit they’re a fan of bands such as Erasure? But I recently saw Beirut in concert and can’t get enough of them right now. Makes being crammed under armpits in an overcrowded subway slightly tolerable.

What is the one item in your closet you cannot live without?
Well, I live in a loft and don’t have a closet. But one item I cannot live without is . . . jeans. Exciting, I know. My favorite pair I’m wearing out right now are my AG jeans.

Where is your favorite place in the world?
Outside – does that count as an answer?

What are you obsessing about owning right now?
My own apartment

What is the most used item in your makeup bag?
My Revlon tweezers. If I didn’t have them I’d be mistaken for Frida Kahlo.

What is your favorite neighborhood restaurant?
5 Leaves in Greenpoint, Brooklyn is amazing. Delicious menu and they play great records.

What is your necessary extravagance?

Traveling!! Even though I should probably be saving money instead, I try to leave the country twice a year for my sanity.

How do you define perfect happiness?
Happiness is being with your favorite people in life and laughing so hard that you lose control of your bladder . . . there would also have to be wine and puppies present.

Guest Stylist - Naomi Newirth

Naomi Newirth is one of our regular fashionistas visiting the island of Bali. She has a blessed life of an island girl with an unquenchable wanderlust. Don't forget to check out her new line - Acacia Swimwear. I have personally tried them on and they are SEXY and definitely make you feel good.

Who is your style icon?
I have a lot, but one is model, Daria Werbowy, I always pull off pictures of her from the web, and tear out of magazine pics, her style inspires me.

What's playing on your iPod?
There is a great song by Vanessa da Mata that I’m listening to right now. She collaborated on a song called Boa Sorte/Good Luck with Ben Harper.

What is the one item in your closet you cannot live without?
My bikinis of course! When I’m home, or in Bali, I live in them, so if I didn’t have one on hand at all times I would definitely feel incomplete.

Where is your favorite place in the world?
My favorite place in the whole world would have to be my home… MAUI! No place compares.

What are you obsessing about owning right now?
I recently saw a vintage Louis Vitton trunk that I’ve been thinking about ever since. Right now my mind is on traveling, I’m leaving for a week to go to Bali for 5 weeks and that trunk would sure come in handy!

I am also loving this handbag by Bird Handbags...

What is the most used item in your makeup bag?
My Touche Eclat radiant touch by YSL

What is your favorite neighborhood restaurant?
Paia Fish Market in Maui... best ono burger in the whole world!

What is your necessary extravagance?
Traveling is a must…. experiencing new cultures and fashion. Traveling inspires me and makes me who I am.

How do you define perfect happiness?
Being home with family and friends. Sharing special places and special moments with the people in my life I most care about.

Guest Stylist: Christina Hild

We've invited an old friend of TSC to inaugurate our new Thursday format. Christina embodies the perfect combination of big-city style (she currently calls San Francisco home) and relaxed sophistication. She's got effortless style wired and here's a peek into her arsenal of must-haves.

Who is your style icon?
Right now I am liking Rachel Bilson's look. She has a casual but fashionable style that is easy for me to emulate here in cold San Francisco - boots, scarves, etc.

Day Three of A Little Q and A

In case you missed yesterday...

This week we are introducing a new format to our weekly guest stylist posts and we thought we'd try it out ourselves first. We're channeling our inner James Lipton and seeing what happens.

Here are Laura's thoughts...

Who is your style icon?
Sarah Jessica Parker. Hands down. She's effortlessly chic and isn't afraid to take risks with fashion.

Day Two of A Litte Q and A

In case you missed yesterday...

This week we are introducing a new format to our weekly guest stylist posts and we thought we'd try it out ourselves first. We're channeling our inner
James Lipton and seeing what happens.

Here are Leslie's thoughts...

Who is your style icon?
At the moment I am loving Nicole Ricci because she rocked the maternity look. Comfortable and bohemian is what it's all about during my 9 months.

What is the one piece of clothing you couldn't live without?

My Isabella Oliver tank dress in black (maternity). I dress it up, I dress it down, it's a lifesaver for an impromptu night out. A must.

What's the most used item in your makeup bag?
My Chanel Glossimer in Rose Sands.

What one item are you obsessing about owning right now?

I was in East Hampton this past weekend and spent most of the time drooling over real estate. So at the moment, this modest home would make me pretty happy. A girl can dream can't she!?

How do you define perfect happiness?
A warm day, a kiss from the hubs, feeling my baby kick, laughing so hard I cry.

RECYCLED - Eras and Style Icons

Because fashion always repeats itself we are taking a look back on our favorite decades and the style icons who made them memorable. We may not have been there the first time around but re-living the style of these times is something we thoroughly enjoy.

....................................

Sybil's Pick...

1970's

If I hadn't been a youngster in the late 70's, you would have found me hanging out at Studio 54 in NYC. Glamorous, naughty and housing a club full of some of the most creatives of the day (need I even say Basquiat and Warhol), fashionistas (Diana Vreeland) and the infamous hotelier Ian Schrager in his younger hey day. I would have liked to attend Bianca Jagger's birthday party or the infamous New Years Party where supposedly 4 tons of glitter was dumped on the dance floor. Thankfully, our modern day SJP is the designer spearhead behind Halston Heritage, bringing back memories of a time that lived on the vibrant dance floor.

Laura's Pick...

1930's

From a style perspective, I am a big fan of the 30s when Gabrielle Chanel was at the height of building the iconic House of Chanel brand. Her work was so innovative (jersey, separates, pant suits, statement jewelry) and her designs paved the way for the elegant bohemian style that is still so current today. She is my ultimate style icon. Here are some amazing pieces from the 1930s that were recently featured in the Metropolitan Museum of Art Chanel Retrospective.

Leslie's Pick...

1960's

The demure, conservative style of the 1950's held on well into the 60's but with a sexier slant. The skirts got tighter, the silhouette shapelier and the women much more glamorous. My ultimate style icon from the day is the beautiful Grace Kelly. We can thank shows like Mad Men for bringing the 60's style back into the limelight and back into our closets.

M is for Missoni...

There is something so envious about Margherita Missoni. This 27 -year old fashion icon has a life that dreams are made of. Granddaughter of Ottavio Missoni of the Missoni fashion house, she came in like a charm and reinvented the brand - she's the brainchild behind M by Missoni. A jet-setter, strikingly beautiful and business minded…. I am always inspired by her fashion sense and her very visible love for life. For me she is the epitome of bohemian glam. Love you MM.
