Two Tim's Collide

I was fortunate this year to attend the Tim Burton Retrospective in Melbourne. The Australian city was the first international stop from MoMA which had the 3rd highest attendance in the history of the museum. To begin, take a personal journey into his mind starting from his initial drawings as a child and his delightfully twisted way of viewing life and domestication. A genius in the making...clearly.

Next, meander through a timeline of some of the most visually stunning films of our time. Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Big Fish, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and as of late, Alice in Wonderland.

Here is a fun collaboration between Mr. Burton and one of my favorite photographers, Tim Walker...just to get you in the mood for a dark yet stylish Halloween. Shot for Baazar in 2009.

Obsessing over Fall

Not long ago, I'd cruised past J.Crew with no more than a 2nd glance. With all due respect, it was a little too conservative and boring for me. But ever since Jenna took over and I came back to the USA to find the September catalog clutched in my hands... and drooling over the brilliant styling of mixing tweed, denim, sequins, suede, fur and leather, it has finally appealed to my maximalist brain. So have I changed or has J Crew? Coveting these looks for fall warmth with ultimate style and layering.

Happy Weekend!

Fall has arrived here in NYC and I'm gathering my necessities like a little chipmunk. Here are my must haves for a perfect Fall weekend...

Great boots. Loving these from Burberry.

Easy knit pieces like these, from Shopbop.

Time to pull out the cozy blanket for the bed. This Hermes one is fantastic.

The perfect ensemble for baby Sailor, from Bonpoint

A pumpkin-spice latte from Starbucks

Happy weekend everyone!

Spring Fling

The Spring collections have sprouted and of course we are looking forward to the next season. While a few of my favorite designers disappointed... here's a quick peek at some pieces to covet.

Australian designer Willow. While it's highly unlikely I would draw any attention to my abdomen area, I love the lines and draping. It's also a lovely combination of black and brown.

Thakoon. I like the easiness of the dress paired with the simple ladylike jacket. The boots give the ensemble a slight edge. I'd add a some gothic rings or studded cuff to finish off.

Victoria Beckham. If we are going to go for fuller skirts I have one request. Make em' short. Because I believe you have to show some leg if you can.

Rebecca Taylor. I love this outfit (though this model is too skinny). Hits perfect at the waist with a loose full skirt and slightly edged shoulders. I'd do some black shoes and the Alexander Wang bag that Rachel Zoe featured this week.

Catherine Maladrino. My husband would HATE this outfit. I love stuff like this but not sure if even this model likes it! You have to pull off these pants with a little bit of confidence. I like the structured and intricate jacket and I have no problem with those pants. Love them.

Erin Fetherston. Flowly sleeves in a minimalist (very minimalist in this case) blouse, high waisted pants that elongate the leg. Classic, chic and sexy.

Diane Von Furstenberg. I don't commit much to color but this navy stove pipe pants suit definitely makes you long for a spring. Love the punch of yellow and light blue belt.

BCBG. This red mini dress is a perfect choice! Flowy and short but in a bold color.

Halston. Go SJP go! I can only imagine how this dress feels and love the color.

MORE red. Marc Jacobs. Deep red with structured shoulders and the cutest tie waist.

Isabel and Ruben Toledo - A Love Story

So I am back from baby-having and although my life is now about burp cloths and nursing bras (and loving every minute!) I still daydream about the day I'll be able to slip back into my Herve Leger and Louboutins. Style is still top of mind and with that I bring you a love story that merges two of my favorite worlds - Fashion and Illustration.

Meet Isabel and Ruben Toledo...

When illustrator Ruben Toledo first spied Isabel in his high school classroom he was instantly smitten with this Cuban beauty. With a shared love for design and art, they one day married and formed a powerful, style-rich partnership. Isabel is a fashion designer who recently gained notoriety by designing Michele Obama's inauguration day coat and Ruben, an illustrator with a whimsical style, has produced memorable pieces like the ad campaign he did for Nordstrom.

I love both of their work and I am sure I'd love them as a couple all well. What a pair!

Ruben Toledo has been commissioned by Penguin books to illustrate new covers to classic novels, I'll have to buy the entire collection, they are hauntingly beautiful.
