Magic Carpet Ride

My obsession du jour is carpet.  I love a wood floor but in our new apartment I want the nursery to be cozy, so good-ol-fashion, wall-to-wall carpet is where I am going.  At the same time I want it bold and fun, no pastel polka dots or subtle stripes.  Finding the right carpet was harder than I thought, so I kept my handy inspiration pics nearby when I shopped, store after store.  These kept me motivated...

In the end I chose this diamond pattern by Bloomsburg. Hope it works!  I'll be sure to post a photo of the room when it's done so you can decide.

Dining In

I am eyeballs deep in a full apartment renovation and instead of losing my mind I am *trying* to focus on one room at a time.  For now, my obsession lies with the dining area, it's small so I need to get creative with the furniture and layout.  I love the feel of a round table so I've included some options on my inspiration board but I've also pulled some great ideas for a less space-needy arrangement.  My muses...

Tiny Jewel

Loving the simple styling of this tiny (900 sq ft) apartment. The former NYC home of model Miranda Kerr, this wonderful little jewel is currently on the market and can be yours for around 1.4 million.

Mirror Mirror Not On The Wall

Time to break out the Windex, today is all about mirrored furniture. This trend has been around for a while, and some may argue has been overplayed, but I think done in moderation the right amount of reflection is perfect in every room. If you can tolerate the constant cleaning of fingerprints then consider one of these great pieces.

I recently purchased this chest for my nursery - we're converting it into a changing table. Practical? Perhaps not. Chic? For sure.

Loving the gold and black combination of this entertainment cabinet.

I wish I knew where this table was from, if you do, let me know!!

These mirrored tables add just the right amount of glamor and are SO inexpensive it's a no-brainer.

Faceted Mirror Side Tables from West Elm

You have to be really comfortable with how you look in the morning to have a mirrored bed.

The delicate lines of this vanity are so sweet and I am also loving the black feather curtain tie-backs!

Barcelona Mirrored Dressing Table

Since you can see a reflection in Aerin Lauder's gold desk I'll classify it as mirrored. It's so stunning I had to include it!

Reflect on that for a while!

9 By Design

Because raising just one child in this crazy city called Manhattan is a little overwhelming, it's with great awe and admiration that I watch the hectic, high-style, life of the Novogratz family. Bravo TV's latest voyeur fascination, 9 By Design, is a show about a family of 9 (2 outnumbered adults and 7 adorable kids) who live in NYC, renovate and flip, commercial and residential spaces... some of which they live in. What captures my attention most about the show isn't the fact that they are raising a gaggle of kids (that concept seems all too familiar in reality TV) it's their devil-may-care attitude to design that makes me tune in. True, they have the luxury of big budgets and amazing spaces but there is a lesson for all of us in the way they approach design... use what you love. Buy something that you may not have a place for, you'll find one and your home will be a reflection of you because of it.
